We asked

We asked what the public thought of our plan to reorganise Lincolnshire councils with three unitary authorities. We drafted our proposal based on:

  • your feedback
  • local experience, data and services
  • geography and government priorities

You said

More than 2,600 of you participated. What you told us was:

  • there are too many councillors
  • you want better value for money
  • it should be easier to understand who’s responsible
  • a big council will be too remote
  • the savings might not transpire
  • services could be disrupted

We did

  • suggest in our proposal that 70 councillors represent residents in existing wards
  • commit to reducing duplication to make the council more efficient. Your comments were shared with finance before council tax proposals were written
  • our three unitary council proposal makes it clear who does what and who to contact, regardless of who used to provide the service
  • include local committees and hubs in our proposal to keep identity and insight
  • added the cost (£25.89m) and the recurring benefits (£46.44m) to the proposal
  • make it clear how high performing services like support to children and Fire and Rescue won’t be broken up under our proposal
