Sticking Plaster

I've never known the roads this bad. I live in a rural village and have seen an increase in the volume & noise disturbance of traffic. I accept that farm traffic needs access however not HGVs & quarry lorries that think rattling through at 4/5am is acceptable. I can only assume some of these are cutting through from the A15 to the A52. In one day, whilst working, I did an experiment. & counted nearly 100 different lorries of all sizes. Noisy enough on their own but then...they hit the potholes, the uneven road surfaces & drains. I contacted the parish Council regarding my concerns, the noise, the disturbance, the damage that must be happening due to the weight of the lorries.. Martin Hill was present at that meeting where these concerns were addressed and he stated 'at the time that, whilst he understood the frustrations it was difficult to know what could be done to solve the matter.' He had not read the letter, so the parish council urged him to take a copy with him, which he was apparently keen to do. As far as I'm aware we never heard back from him.

To my mind the issue of increased potholes & deteriorating roads is due to an increase in the volume & types of vehicles. A major A road is more likely to be repaired and able to take this constant pounding than a B road. If a pothole is the wound and it bleeds & all you do is put a sticking plaster over it time and time again then it's just a temporary fix. So if it continues to bleed, you investigate & treat the cause of the bleeding so that when you do fix it it's more likely to last longer. If you don't, its just a waste of time & resources.
