The Excuses Have GOT To Stop
I live in North Somercotes. If I want to go to Louth, or anywhere else inland for that matter, unless I make a fuel-wasting, time-wasting detour, I run the gauntlet of some of the most dangerous and accident inviting pieces of road I have ever come across - and that includes driving in North Africa and Eastern Europe.
It's all down to poor maintenance. End of!
The excuses trotted out about farm machinery and roadside drains, population density, miles of road per capita, blah, blah, blah etc etc, are so hackneyed they are almost (almost!) as potholed as the roads.
The farm machinery and roadside drains are a fact of life. They have always been there, they always will be. The relative sparsity of population and miles of road are a fact of life but other Counties have the same issues and get the balance better. Why can't Lincolnshire?
When it rains you dare not EVER drive through a puddle. The chances are there is a 6" (150mm) deep hole in the middle of it and that is more than enough to burst a tyre and ruin a wheel rim. Worse still it is quite enough to cause a driver to lose control. The options after that are an oncoming truck, or a drain full of water. The next death from drowning in a roadside drain, following an accident will not be the first. Even if there is no ensuing accident and no burst a tyre, it will most certainly damage the vehicle's suspension and alignment.
The cost of this almost without exception falls upon the motorist.
If you do not believe me about the size of the potholes, gather up a measuring stick of some sort, Imperial, or Metric, and come along with me sometime.
We'll go in your car, I've had to check the steering geometry of mine often enough.
Thank you for your contribution!
