North Hykeham Relief Road

Introduction

This engagement is now closed, thank you for taking part. We will use this this site to keep you informed about the project.

The North Hykeham Relief Road is one of Lincolnshire’s most anticipated highways projects. Lincolnshire County Council and its partners are now even closer to building it.

The project has been an aspiration of the county and district councils for many years.

We selected the new road’s preferred route in 2006, which will create a complete ring road around Greater Lincoln.

This route will link the A46 Pennells Roundabout to the Lincoln Eastern Bypass at its junction with the A15.

The road will form part of the Lincolnshire Coastal Highway. It is expected to bring long-lasting benefits to transport and growth across the county when it is opened.

This project will be a large highways construction scheme when main construction begins. It will include:

  • a new five mile long dual carriageway
  • new roundabouts built at South Hykeham Road, Brant Road and Grantham Road
  • several new bridges, including one over the River Witham

In April this year, Balfour Beatty was appointed by Lincolnshire County Council to design and build the North Hykeham Relief Road.

What we’re doing now and how you can get involved

We’re currently optimising the relief road preferred route.

We have already developed ways to avoid critical infrastructure, including a fuel pipeline, a flood bank, electricity pylons and a biodigester.

At this stage, we sought your views and feedback about various other aspects of the project, including:

  • the design of Station Road where the new relief road crosses it
  • re-routing the existing Public Right of Way at Somerton Gate Lane
  • environmental considerations and any other ways we could optimise the route

Information about the project is available on our website.
