Stamford - Low Traffic Neighbourhood

Thank you for accessing the Active Travel Fund survey.

This proposed scheme will create a low-traffic neighbourhood to reduce through traffic in the historic St George’s area of Stamford. This will end the practice of bypassing the A1175 and A6121 through the historic residential area. This follows a series of vehicle strikes on buildings and is hoped to make active travel easier in the centre of Stamford.

A series of road closures are proposed to be implemented on the east side of the St George’s area. However, residents will still be able to access the area via the west entrances to the area but no through motor traffic, including for residents, would be permitted. Pedestrians and cyclists will continue to be able to travel through the area.

The proposals include:

  1. The physical closure of the northern section of St George’s Street outside Marks and Spencer
  2. The physical closure of the road in the area of Maiden Lane and St George’s Square

If taken forward, a closure will be installed at the above locations and will be implemented by using high-quality temporary infrastructure, such as traffic planters and signage.

The survey is split into two parts, firstly there is a general attitudes survey on transport then there is a brief second section for you to comment on the proposed scheme. The survey will remain live until 17th December 2021.
