Fix our funds to fix our roads

Council agreed again to fill the pothole in our 2023/24 highways funding from Government. An extra £7m of Lincolnshire’s cash is going into our roads.

Your County Views survey responses, FixMyStreet reports, and this campaign is strengthening the case for fairer funding in Lincolnshire.

If you or local businesses have been affected by poor road conditions, tell us. By talking about the impact the lost funding has on you, we can campaign Government together.

We expect there to be further funding cuts in the years ahead so please join our fight for crucial cash by sharing your stories below.

  • Potholes so dangerous to riders of bikes

by Elsa Fox, over 2 years ago
The potholes around Sutton Bridge are a severe danger to those, often young people, without much road experience, who are riding small wheeled 50cc motor scooters in the area. It's obviously worse during the winter months when dark, wet and gloomy and the young people are heading to and from their first job or education. One place which absolutely terrifies me is the island on the A17 with the B1168 (Boston Rd South) which leads to Holbeach Tesco. Anyone travelling by bicycle, scooter or motorcycle from Sutton Bridge to Spalding and who is therefore going straight on at that traffic... Continue reading
  • Puncture after hitting pothole

by Spence1, over 2 years ago

Ok so finished work start to accelerate as I approach slip road to A1 off Great North Rd. Hit pothole immediate puncture as it splits sidewall, limp to Grantham at 5:20pm no tyres to fit car in the whole of Grantham, need to ask friend to drive 60 miles to collect me.

Absolutely disgusting, especially when I then log the pothole on Fix my Street and see there have been multiple reports for the same pothole, I shall be taking photos of hole and making a claim for the tyre.

    Let alone the inconvenience....

So to add further to this... Continue reading

  • Dangerous country road conditions

by yadillot, over 2 years ago
I report dangerous potholes in our area around Tetford generally going out to main roads where conditions are better. This has been the case for several years. I expect that the council have no employees checking on our road because they rely exclusively on public reports which are free. There is no sign of a council care of the abysmal roads in our area. They seem to be more able to pay out grudgingly when a vehicle owner makes a claim to damage caused by unfit roads than to do the sensible thing by ensuring roads are fit for purpose.
  • Dangerous Potholes throughout my village

by Potholes aswarby, over 2 years ago

Dear Sir Madam I am going around and around since reporting huge potholes throughout my village in Aswarby . Today the rains fills all the holes up so driving is treacherous as in the dark if you hit these dangerous potholes your likely to damage your tyres or more bicycles if they hit any of these holes would cause a serious accident which already has caused persons to break their cycle tyres. These dangerous potholes have been reported over 5 times given reference numbers told their investigating them all But No Actions happens. Over 20 large holes can be seen... Continue reading

  • Potholes are painful!

by Miss Bee, over 2 years ago
I personally have a spinal condition and I’m in pain the majority of time.

When I’m in the car and we drive over unavoidable potholes, this causes the car to jerk and as a consequence causes me extreme pain.
It’s got to the point where there are certain routes I completely avoid.

In modern day society it shouldn’t have to be like this!

  • Selective Repairs

by Tantivy, over 2 years ago

Willoughby Road, the service road for Greylees, Sleaford, was peppered with potholes for a long time. Then the minor potholes among them were repaired, leaving two large ones near Rauceby station. The top surface of the road has gone all together here. Negotiating these holes means pulling out onto the other side of the road. Why they have not been repaired is a mystery.

  • Good Repairs

With the government priortising the NHS and social care, as much as I agree with trying to get the 12 million pounds reinstated I think you should firstly look at doing the best you can with what you have got. Should the council not

give greater thought to making what repairs they do do 'good ones' and not ones that are filled one day and 2 days later back to where they were and tarmac pieces all over the road. Give the operatives the equipment they need to make good lasting repairs.

  • G Melbourne

A153 between North Kyme and Anwick is terrible and no sense of urgency to fix it. Drivers swerve to miss the potholes which is dangerous to oncoming traffic. I blew a tyre due to a pothole on the A153 to Horncastle and when I logged a claim with the council I was essentially told to bother proceeding with the claim as I wouldn't win!. There are too many lorries and farm vehicles on the A153 for the authorities not to maintain the road properly. Local taxes are always increasing but roads are getting worse.
  • Potholes and road edges

by Colin.Hopkirk, over 2 years ago
As a user of Country roads, in a rural county, the number of times I have had to stop or swerve due to potholes and disintegrating road edges, avoiding oncoming traffic narrowly at times, is becoming much worse. Keeping roads safe and businesses connected matters.
  • My snapped spring

by Matthew.Holmes, over 2 years ago

Recently I had the unpleasant experience of having the rear leaf spring on my truck snapped by running through a deep pot hole.
I applied to lincs county council to fund the cost of the repair, which they did to approximately 70%, working on the fact the vehicle wasn’t brand new.
What they seem to have forgotten was that the whole process was a complete pain, two trips to the garage, a vehicle off the road for 36hrs, the time and energy to gather suitable information to apply, in no way was I compensated for any of this.
    If I... Continue reading
