Update - 26 June 2024
The Louth Transport Board has met to discuss the report and its findings. The meeting, held on June 4, gave rise to a number of decisions and timescales for various elements of traffic in Louth.
These are:
Cornmarket. The majority of responses wanted the Cornmarket area to remain as it currently is. The Board decided to take no further action in Cornmarket as a result of this part of the public feedback
Market Place. In a similar view to Cornmarket, the feedback was to mostly leave the Market Place as it currently is, but with a view to altering the parking at this location so that it is restricted by time. This is likely to happen across autumn/winter 2024
Limited waiting bays. The decision was taken to leave the current bays as they are with no further action necessary
Eastgate loading bays. The decision was taken to leave the current bays as they are with no further action necessary at least until the future of the adjacent units is known
Cycle parking. The Board will review locations identified in the engagement process and arrange installation if feasible. This is hoped to begin this summer and locations will be discussed further at the next Transport Board meeting being held on 3 September 2024
In the engagement process about traffic in Louth, the Board has taken the following decisions based on additional issues identified from the responses and comments made by those who took part:
Amendment to the Traffic Regulation Order which will prevent parking on the narrow section of Eastgate – a public consultation will happen in July / August 2024. All information will be published on Lincolnshire County Council website
To explore the feasibility of free parking provision and provision of additional disabled parking allocation within pay and display car parks. Alternative schemes for free parking - for example with shop reimbursement or a park and ride system - to be discussed at the next Transport Board meeting held on 3 September 2024
To explore the feasibility of shared space on market days by condensing the area for individual market stalls in order to create space for pavement cafes. This is to be discussed at the next Transport Board meeting on 3 September 2024
To review and potentially improve directional signs to pay and display car parks – to be reviewed through summer / autumn 2024
Footpath condition. To explore potential future maintenance scheme to improve condition and put in additional crossing points. This is going to be reviewed for possible implementation for the next financial year which will be 2025 / 2026

Throughout January and February we asked your views on Louth town centre. The engagement results were due to be discussed by the Transport Board on 9 April 2024. However, this meeting has been postponed.

The Active Travel experimental trial in Louth ran for 18-months to explore different ways to encourage people to take more time when visiting the centre of the town. That scheme concluded in September last year and we’ve returned everything to the way it was before the trial started in March 2022.
Now, the Louth Transport Board (the Board) is looking at what can be done next to further boost the middle of the market town and encourage visitors to make the most of the businesses and services there.
Representing Louth residents, businesses, and visitors, the Board is made up of councillor and officer representatives from:
Lincolnshire County Council
East Lindsey District Council and
Louth Town Council
At its meeting of 7 November 2023, the Board discussed results from previous surveys carried out by East Lindsey District Council and Louth Town Council. They also considered options for future alternative use of space in the town centre, and would now like to hear your views and ideas on them.
The Board will use the results as part of the decision-making process about the future of Louth town.
We will publish a report from this engagement on this page and we will update this page with the decisions taken and any next steps that may follow. This might include additional engagement, depending on the decisions made.
