Informal volunteering

I've always volunteered, but after having a baby, I needed something really flexible. Village newsletter delivery and playgroup was a starting point, but litter picking is a current favourite/necessity. We go out together with gloves, a picker, bag, hoop and poo bags (most of which came from the district council via the parish council). It's good exercise, helps the local aesthetic and nature, teaches my daughter personal and social responsibility and makes me feel like I'm doing something worthwhile. Lots of people stop to chat and say thank you and whenever we see people litter picking we do the same.
