RAF Ingham Heritage Centre
My husband and I have been volunteering with RAF Ingham Heritage Centre (on the B1398 just outside of Ingham) for a year and a half. We are both retired, but want to remain active. This project appealed to us both as we have an interest in the second world war and the history of bomber airfields in our county. RAF Ingham was an airfield that flew Wellington Bombers. There were Polish Squadrons flying from here and also a British squadron, and after the war many of the Poles settled here. RAF Ingham is still a work in progress, but it's coming on in leaps and bounds. We're hoping to open up in the autumn this year. I get involved in all sorts of work, from painting, cleaning and gardening. When we open I'm planning on helping in our cafe, in the shop/reception and showing people around. Some people call in now when they see the gates open, and they're always welcome to see our work and our vision. It's very exciting and satisfying. They are a great bunch of people who volunteer there, and we've made some lovely new friends, some of who are Polish volunteers who also come to help.
Engagement has now concluded
