Tyre Tax
by DonWard, about 4 years agoWith the reduced road tax collected due to Lower or NO TAX Vehicles the money allocated to repairs is reduced. I suggested to the Government, some time ago, that the loss could be made up by taxing tyres. A small tax on all tyres would be a start. There are not many vehicles that use our roads that do not have tyres, even bikes. It is tyres that produce most damage to roads, consider heavy vehicles, lorries etc. I hope that they have a better idea. With the reduced road tax collected due to Lower or NO TAX Vehicles the money allocated to repairs is reduced. Worst in the country.
by Mr. H. , over 4 years agoLincolnshire roads are by far the worst I’ve experienced driving all over the UK. The B6403/High Dyke road between Kesteven Rugby Club and the A1 is nothing short of dangerous when visibility is reduced if dark/raining. Repeated very large potholes have damaged my car in the last year to the tune of three tyres, an alloy wheel repair, and other associated repair costs. This is not a new problem, but something Lincolnshire County Council are simply failing to rectify. I simply cannot accept the issue is a lack of funding, more a poor allocation of funding. I’d like to know how much the new roundabout by Kesteven Rugby Club is costing, as well as the final cost of the Holdingham roundabout works. The new roundabouts are great I’m sure, but nice things need to come AFTER securing the basics. -

State of the roads
by PerkyPenguin, over 4 years agoIn the long distant past we paid for a windscreen tax disc which went into a ring-fenced fund for the maintenance of our roads. In 1935 that link was broken and our money now goes into government central funds and is used for anything that suits them and very little for our roads. Please report ALL faults to your local council as any damage caused by an unrectified fault has to be paid for by the relevant council. In the long distant past we paid for a windscreen tax disc which went into a ring-fenced fund for the maintenance of our roads. by Susies01, over 4 years agoThe road into Grantham from the A1 is disgraceful the amount of very deep holes on spittlegate level near the new roundabout and new road is beyond belief. All the money being spent on the new road and the Council can’t even fill in the holes on the roads that are already there and are used by hundreds of cars every day -a very busy road main road into Grantham. Not so much the roads as the footpaths
by Chris Farmery, over 4 years agoThe state of footpaths for disabled wheelchair/scooter uses is diabolical. It's almost impossible to smoothly join a new piece of footpath when crossing junctions. Further the studded portions (I believe are for the blind) encroach to far on the rest of the path, shaking scooters to pieces. The state of footpaths for disabled wheelchair/scooter uses is diabolical. by RMJ75, over 4 years agoSteeping Road at Thorpe Fendykes has been a drivers hazard for quite a few years now. The odd shovel full of tarmac has been dropped in some of the potholes at various points in time, but they are now as bad as ever, and the general road surface has deteriorated so badly that it's only fit for 4x4's and farm vehicles.I damaged my car wheel there and reported it to the council 4 years ago, but nothing was done.

More recently, I filed another complaint. I noticed that several other people had reported the stretch of road too.
Not long after, I read a notice in the Skegness Standard saying that this particular Road was to be closed from 7th -11th February for essential maintenance to be undertaken. This was backed up by Road closure signs, and from the 7th I had to use diversions for my daily drive.
On the evening of the 11th February the road reopened. I drove through with trepidation expecting the potholes to have at least been filled in, but absolutely NOTHING had been done!!! So the road had been closed for no reason!
I, and I'm sure others, are absolutely fuming about this. Diversions take extra time and extra fuel, which is expensive enough at the moment!

1x Front Beam 2x Damaged Tires, 2x Damaged Wheels. on 3x Vehicles in the last year
by Stu Arms, over 4 years agoThis is getting ridiculous as we will be claiming against the county council for the damages caused due to hitting potholes not once but
three times...FIRST TIME, new front beam on our classic car, which was in the £1000's just for the replacement and the rework, £300+ for towing home and towing to garage.
SECOND TIME we paid for the repair ourselves which included the wheel and tire for our Clio which cost us over £300.

SECOND TIME we paid for the repair ourselves which included the wheel and tire for our Clio which cost us over £300.
THIRD TIME But this time my son's car hits a pothole near between Ancaster and Cranwell and needs a replacement tire which is nearly £200 just for the tire and has damaged the wheel... Ended being up towed being home, nearly 4 hours later no transport to get back to base as it was nearly one in the morning. Then he incurred costs for getting a train as he was on the early part of his journey back to Nr Telford.
No Signage to notify of known potholes, no restriction of speed. The county council also has a responsibility and duty of care for the safety of the public. IF You know there are potholes, which you did as there were signs for the road being closed off for repairs, put appropriate restrictions and signage. If I didn't pay my taxes to the amount I have lost thanks to the poor roads of Lincolnshire, I would be locked up for nonpayment...
I also recommend that the council and government issues quality standards on third parties that dig the road for repairs that they seal repairs as nearly ALL the potholes are old repairs not sealed to save money... Stop keep playing the short game, do things properly. Also invest in scanning roads, even the road we live on has had potholes for years and nothing done apart from a patch that lasts one season then painted over with line paint... -
