Volunteers' week 1-7 June 2022

Volunteers' Week 2022

This engagement has now closed, thank you for taking part.

Volunteers' Week is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering.

As well as helping others, volunteering can help improve your well-being, gain valuable new skills and experiences, and boost your confidence.

Thank you for sharing your stories with us about::

  • why you volunteer and what you enjoy
  • what difference volunteers make to your organisation

Lincolnshire County council supports over 500 volunteers, across 30 locations, who contribute tremendously with their ingenuity, commitment and drive.

These volunteers help projects and services to deliver the highest quality of services. Without these volunteers many sites would not be able to deliver the quality of service required

If you are interested in volunteering with us, we have some fantastic opportunities for people to get involved in volunteering.

These opportunities allow you to get involved in something you enjoy, meet new friends, gain experience, and provide a real feeling of supporting your community.

I volunteer at 2 places Centerpoint Outreach a homeless charity and I have been a volunteer there for 2 years . I now do every other Saturday but for over a year I did every Saturday . It is very rewarding and satisfying . The clients are so happy that we are there to help them . It is great when they get to move on into accommodation and start to rebuild their lives and overcome their addictions .

My second one is at a local Mother and Toddler group in Butterwick . I volunteer on a Wednesday morning during... Continue reading

  • fit as a fiddle club

by sidneycat, almost 2 years ago
for 18 years i have run a weekly seated keep fit and social club for elderly infirm people over the age of 50. we have simple seated exercise , exercise games using a wii machine and coffee, cake and chat. When funds allow i take the members to the theatre usually at christmas time. For all members of the club it is a lifeline against loneliness and a unhealthy life. For some it is the only time they can meet other people during the week. I have given my services entirely free.

in the summer of 2018, I was approached to organise the competition part of the 2019 Bourne Cicle Festival. Races for both men and women.

I was happy to agree with the role as a volunteer and part of the responsibility was to recruit 150 more volunteers.

Covering a huge area from Bourne and the many villages large and small around the route, a real sense of community and involvement was created with the help of InvestSK and SKDC.

Monthly meetings with councils, safety advisory groups followed.

For a first time event - huge success. The long term vision being... Continue reading

  • Informal volunteering

by Cakey, almost 2 years ago
I've always volunteered, but after having a baby, I needed something really flexible. Village newsletter delivery and playgroup was a starting point, but litter picking is a current favourite/necessity. We go out together with gloves, a picker, bag, hoop and poo bags (most of which came from the district council via the parish council). It's good exercise, helps the local aesthetic and nature, teaches my daughter personal and social responsibility and makes me feel like I'm doing something worthwhile. Lots of people stop to chat and say thank you and whenever we see people litter picking we do the same.
  • Community Library

by Pudster109, almost 2 years ago
I volunteer at the local community library.

I started in the summer of 2019 when we first moved to Lincolnshire and worked two Saturday mornings a month.
Then we went into lockdown ….
Unfortunately, as an asthmatic and carer, I felt unable to go back when the libraries first reopened. However, at the end of the summer last year, I returned and am now working three or four sessions a month.
I have met some really nice people, both colleagues and ‘borrowers’ and I hope to be able to continue for a good while yet.

  • Charity volunteering

by dogsy, almost 2 years ago
    I volunteer for 3 charities.

Have been a volunteer siighted guide for Guide Dogs since early 2019 but had to resign last week as reimbursement of my (not inconsiderable) expenses took up to a month. In these straitened times I was often left bereft of money for my own survival & the situation was getting worse over the last few months.

I found the guiding partnership very rewarding as I really like helping people & I was incredulous how some people behave towards the blind.

Also I collect for Marie Curie cancer & for Lifelines I write weekly to 2... Continue reading

  • Always looking for new opportunities!

by Cloud9jk, almost 2 years ago

I’ve been volunteering since my early 20’s and am always looking for new opportunities. I’ve volunteered for nature conservation charities, a local Brownie group, the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust at their airshow at Scampton in 2017 and most recently for NHS England and Royal Voluntary Service as an NHS Volunteer Responder.

The one that stands out to me the most is my role with the NHS Volunteer Responder programme. In 2020 it was set up to help support people self-isolating during the Covid-19 pandemic. I wanted to make a real difference in people’s lives at a time when they... Continue reading
