Fix our funds to fix our roads

Council agreed again to fill the pothole in our 2023/24 highways funding from Government. An extra £7m of Lincolnshire’s cash is going into our roads.

Your County Views survey responses, FixMyStreet reports, and this campaign is strengthening the case for fairer funding in Lincolnshire.

If you or local businesses have been affected by poor road conditions, tell us. By talking about the impact the lost funding has on you, we can campaign Government together.

We expect there to be further funding cuts in the years ahead so please join our fight for crucial cash by sharing your stories below.

The counci have made an effort to repair the causway but for the life of me I cannot understand why they only filled in half the cracks and left some of the bigger cracks untreated. Also further along the road they are repairing the road with sand and stones which since the repair have all bee knocked out by traffic,,

Is this some kind of joke or are they really so indifferent to the plight of country dwellers that they just make a token effort.

I live in Holland fen. I work in tattershall. I have family in boston and cranwell. The roads in Holland fen are seriously dangerous. The whole Kirton drove needs completely renewing. My neighbour wrote her car off twice because of the state of the road.

My partner has also broken and dislocated both arms due to the roads in Holland fen and has still got to have more extensive surgery on them.

The road damage eg. pot holes and frost damage in Stamford are terrible.

Junction Roman Bank /Tinwell Road is terrible.

Major Junction West Street/ Casterton Road/ North Street also terrible.

Cherryholt Road (top end has major holes)

.Ryall Road has also damage. The Council uses inferior repair companies who “repair “ the damage and five minutes afterwards the damage has returned, because it was’t done properly. These are just the ones I have to negotiate on a regular basis, the list is endless.

  • Fixing roads is bad, actually

by Adam N, about 1 year ago

The reason behind road disrepair is that the cost of running road vehicles is not equivalent to the negative consequences of driving them. We should reduce speed limits and implement road tolls where it makes sense, as well as tax vehicles based on curb weight so that vehicles that do more wear to our roads are responsible for keeping them maintained. The money raised through these measures can be used for road maintenance, but also for things like offsetting air pollution and investing in more efficient public transport.

Not everything here is something local councils can directly tackle, but a... Continue reading

  • Difficulties for road users

by Chriske, over 1 year ago
There are many roads in Lincolnshire which need attention, and I do understanding the financial difficulties of the council, and where they need to prioritise the money they have. The Government seem to expect the councils to do more and more with less and less money, however there are roads that need attention, such as Martin village, Church Road run off just before the bridge, leading to Churchill Drive. I also cannot understand the need for a 40mph speed limit on Martin South Drove, when that road is significantly better than many others with a higher speed limit.

  • BETTER NEIGHBOURS ?

by Corby Lincs, over 1 year ago
Why are the roads in neighbouring rural counties so much better than those in Lincolnshire. I drive regularly along as route that takes me through a part of Rutland - you can tell at once when you cross the county boundary as the Rutland roads are so much smoother and better maintained - no potholes, for a start. Ditto Norfolk - the contrast with Lincolnshire's disintegrating roads is stark. Even Leicestershire roads are not quite so bad.

South Holland District is the forgotten County, the roads have become more dangerous over the years. Lack of Investment the main problem. The area where I live roads are getting passed repair. At one time we were locked in the village with all the roads closed due to the roads being bodged up by contractors. They leave 1 Pot Hole return later in the month to fill another, more money in the Bank. My Concern, who oversees & is responsibly for this? No one seems to take reasonability.

  • BARDNEY CAUSEWAY

by Andrewdryden, over 1 year ago
The Bardney Causeway is in a disgusting state the cracks in the road are now vey dangerous, and what has the council done, just put up 40 mph speed limit signs. Are the council waiting for someone else to die before they fix the road. I saw a cyclist get his wheel trapped and was surprised that he did not hurt himself. This road is long overdue a proper repair not jut a bit of tar here and there
