Fix our funds to fix our roads

For 2019/20 Lincolnshire County Council had its maintenance funding from the Government cut by a massive £12m. This was to have a huge effect on the county’s roads.

Because of the cash cut, county councillors voted to fill the void so that essential road works could still be carried out. They did this using council funding reserves for the year – but this is something that they won’t be able to do in the future.

This missing £12m pays for filling 24,000 potholes and rebuilding 37 miles of deteriorating road per year.

Now, as the Department for Transport begins looking

For 2019/20 Lincolnshire County Council had its maintenance funding from the Government cut by a massive £12m. This was to have a huge effect on the county’s roads.

Because of the cash cut, county councillors voted to fill the void so that essential road works could still be carried out. They did this using council funding reserves for the year – but this is something that they won’t be able to do in the future.

This missing £12m pays for filling 24,000 potholes and rebuilding 37 miles of deteriorating road per year.

Now, as the Department for Transport begins looking at funding allocations for 2022/23, we are calling on the Government to repair the £12m pothole it has left in our roads.

Cllr Martin Hill, Leader of Lincolnshire County Council, said: “It was incredibly disappointing when the Government cut our highways funding by 25% last February.

"We’re a large rural county and our residents place a huge amount of importance on well-maintained roads – something we’re doing our best to deliver but are struggling to fund.”

And this is where we need you to add your voice to our campaign to Fix the Funding so that we can Fix the Roads.

If you’ve been personally affected by poor road conditions, or your business has suffered as a result of the road system not being as good as it should be, then this is where your story matters most.

We want to hear from you. If you live or work in Lincolnshire then tell us about the impact this loss of funding has had on you. Join our fight for reinstating the crucial cash right here.

How does the current state of the road network affect you? As highways continue to degrade what will the long term effects be on you or your business? Tell us.

Every single story that you share with us really matters and is a valuable addition to the campaign for the missing millions in funding.

By talking about this we can all come together to campaign Government directly.

Do it here. Share your stories below.

  • Potholes

by Susies01, about 1 year ago
The road into Grantham from the A1 is disgraceful the amount of very deep holes on spittlegate level near the new roundabout and new road is beyond belief. All the money being spent on the new road and the Council can’t even fill in the holes on the roads that are already there and are used by hundreds of cars every day -a very busy road main road into Grantham. It’s a joke! The holes have yellow paint around them so the council is aware and they have had paint round them for the last 2 months and certainly before... Continue reading
  • Not so much the roads as the footpaths

by Chris Farmery, about 1 year ago
The state of footpaths for disabled wheelchair/scooter uses is diabolical. It's almost impossible to smoothly join a new piece of footpath when crossing junctions. Further the studded portions (I believe are for the blind) encroach to far on the rest of the path, shaking scooters to pieces.
  • Road closed for scheduled work but nothing has been done!

by RMJ75, about 1 year ago
Steeping Road at Thorpe Fendykes has been a drivers hazard for quite a few years now. The odd shovel full of tarmac has been dropped in some of the potholes at various points in time, but they are now as bad as ever, and the general road surface has deteriorated so badly that it's only fit for 4x4's and farm vehicles.

I damaged my car wheel there and reported it to the council 4 years ago, but nothing was done.

More recently, I filed another complaint. I noticed that several other people had reported the stretch of road too.

    Not... Continue reading

  • 1x Front Beam 2x Damaged Tires, 2x Damaged Wheels. on 3x Vehicles in the last year

by Stu Arms, about 1 year ago
This is getting ridiculous as we will be claiming against the county council for the damages caused due to hitting potholes not once but

    three times...

FIRST TIME, new front beam on our classic car, which was in the £1000's just for the replacement and the rework, £300+ for towing home and towing to garage.

SECOND TIME we paid for the repair ourselves which included the wheel and tire for our Clio which cost us over £300.

THIRD TIME But this time my son's car hits a pothole near between Ancaster and Cranwell and needs a replacement tire... Continue reading

  • Cobbling Stamford

by GARY, about 1 year ago
Why is it that LCC can waste 1.4 million pounds which has been put aside for re-cobbling one Road in Stamford when the mayor for Stamford has clearly pointed out on East midland news that tarmacing the Road would be cheaper and some money could go to potholes.
  • Forgotten village's a disgrace.

by Dave legsby, about 1 year ago

Iam just reading the latest news about road funding lighting, repairs ie potholes ,verges ect. Which my self as a taxpayer would like to add my thoughts and see if any were else in the area are suffering like ourselves.

    1 Legsby Village LN83QW

2,,Roads and pot holes total disgrace accidents waiting to happen,

Speeding through village well in excess of 30mph no one cares it ends up like a race track and at night it's lethal as most places have street lights we have none so pot holes road markings can't be seen.other villages in west lindsey pay less... Continue reading

  • North Parade, shoddy repair

by Frances Carson, about 1 year ago

Rubbish pothole repair on North Parade. Lincoln. Whoever is doing the pothole repairs should be sacked. Didn't even remove the existing rubble before they put tarmac into the hole. Already crumbling 2 weeks later. Shoddy job, will need redoing again in no time.

  • Outer Circle Drive, Lincoln

by JDJ, about 1 year ago
When are the Council Tax payers of St. Giles and Road Tax payers going to get the disgusting state of the road surface on Outer Circle Drive fixed?

Lincolnshire County Council has wasted money on various "improvements" which have done very little in the way of actually improving matters.

The Wragby Road/Outer Circle Drive/Road junction, the Riseholme Road/A46 roundabout, and the unnecessary resurfacing of roads on the Ermine East estate to name just three.

  • Heckington and East Heckington

by Heckington Parish Council, about 1 year ago

Issues in Heckington and East Heckington

Our Parish has a great many outstanding issues on both roads and pavements – some have been reported many times by residents directly to Highways, or via the Parish Council offices. Judging by the age of some reports, it would certainly suggest that juggling the few funds that are available results in some works being pushed further down the line. When there is a major accident on the A17, our village is the used as the main diversionary route and there are concerns that the current road surfaces will not be able to withstand...
